History of the Ohio Statehouse

The Ohio Statehouse was completed in 1861, after nearly 22 years of construction. The majestic structure is designed to replicate the Greek Revival style of many of the buildings seen in ancient Greece. The Ohio Statehouse is now a National Historic Landmark. A very interesting fact about the construction is about the limestone used. The limestone was chiseled from the west banks of the Scioto River, Ohio’s longest river.
